The battle between Panji and Prabu Klono
Bobung, Gunung Kidul
24/07/2014
The crown Prince hero Panji has to defeat the evil king Prabu Klono. Klono is indeed his arch enemy in the stories preventing Panji to reach his betrothed love the princess Sekartadji. The scene portrays an important aspect of the ideal king, namely that he is ready to keep all evil away from the realm and is capable
of restoring order in the world. He is only able to do so after having
gone through purification, which prepares to receive the teaching of the Tantric path. Wisdom and power from Tantra will help Panji to overcome all obstacles in his search for his betrothed Princess. This scene was shot in the topeng village of Bobung in Wonosari regency, one of the last surviving topeng groups active in the Province of Yogyakarta.
